My Professional Blogging is Getting Lax Again.

Despite what some people may think, this site is a personal blog. Granted, it’s on a more strict set of criteria than my livejournal, but it’s not a blog that truly serves a purpose, other than to explore and display my personal opinions on the subjects of gaming and technology. My professional blogging is on GameOnYou, and it’s getting more and more annoying that I can’t seem to find any lasting features that have any weight in them. Granted, I started out with WHAT THE F*CK IS THIS SH!T, which was me basically going off the handle on certain news in the gaming community and industry, but I haven’t found the same sort of material that I had when I first started that.

I’m throwing around a few ideas, mainly stuff that I can do cheaply, but with new content. Retro Reviews is definitely something that I’m looking towards; a feature where I get games from the previous generation, and review them without talking about the graphics, unless they are comparably good or bad when put against other titles on the same machine. I’m throwing around other ideas, of course, but that is the only real solid idea that could work.

New gamesTM arrived a few days ago, and I only just cracked it open. So far, this looks like the only issue you’ll need this year. I’ll probably post a few snippets up when I get the chance. But, I can tell you that some of the information may be out of date, since it still refers to the new Halo game as Halo: Recon rather than Halo: ODST.

Cartridge Vs CD: Which really was better?

We all remember the times before CD really became the norm. The CD was first used in 1982, but really didn’t kick off ’til the late 80s, and became the quintessential audio format from about 1993 onwards. But we all know that gaming started earlier than that. 1977, to be precise, with Atari 2600. Up until 2001, the Cartridge was still being used as a game medium for home consoles, with the DS still using cartridges to this day, and will no doubt continue using them for a while now that the DSi has been released, and is still using the DS cartridge as it’s medium (along with the SD card slot for downloadable content and games). So now that we’ve come to the end of the cartridge era for consoles, we can look back with a decent amount of hindsight as to whether the Cartridge, or the CD was really the better medium while the cartridge was still available.
