Broadband for all? You really think it's a good thing?

I’m going to go on a tangent here. All I’ve done for a while is talk about games, but I think it’s about time that I threw my net a little wider, and envelope something that is going to affect every person in the UK. Today, there was a report published by Lord Stephen Carter, that was meant to be the announcement of broadband being made available to every household in the UK. It’s on the back end of a survey that says 40% of households still don’t have broadband. It’s a vital service to most people, and is often a preferred way of communication with friends, compared to the mobile for example. But the Government appears to be intent on giving every household in the country a 2Mbps (that’s a maximum of 256 kilobytes transferred a second) Internet connection.

You think it’s a good thing? Let me correct you.

The end of an Era.

Today really is the end of an era for me. For the best part of a year, I’ve had an EeePC. The original 701; upgraded with 2GB of RAM. It’s seen me through thick and thin, and managed to help me avoid losing all my files on my desktop machine to a virus. And today, the day has arrived for it to leave for greener pastures.

I’m selling it on to someone Dad knows, so I know it’ll be used, and taken care of. I just need more screen real estate and more power. I guess that if I need to go down to netbook size again, I can get a more modern one with a better processor. It’s just that I’ve done so much with that thing that it feels like I’m selling on a partner-in-crime.

OK, I’ll stop with the sappy stuff. Seriously though, it’s a great bit of kit, and I genuinely recommend to anyone that if they don’t think they need a laptop, that they get a netbook. The newer ones pack the punch needed, and have the size factor so as to not be overwhelmed. Me, I’m off to grab a Dell 1545 and new Webcam.

How we barely knew thee.

Games I cannot finish.

I have a lot of games. Anyone who denies that can go look here. I’ve got in excess of a hundred, and I still have a lot of classic titles to get for the PS2 and Gamecube. Hell, I haven’t got a single Gamecube game at the moment, and that in itself depresses me a little bit, since there were a lot of good franchise-related titles on there. Not to mention, the non-motion, non-mirrored, cheap-as-hell version of Twilight Princess. But, in my collection, there are a lot of games that I haven’t finished. Some, just because I don’t see the point in finishing them, because they’re boring, it’s to unlock story that I already know, etc. But some games I just can’t finish, for other reasons. So I’m going to wuss out, and admit these.
