Another new snippet to try and get some content up on the blog. Simple idea: Now that I’ve got Dropbox on my machines, I’m pasting links into a notepad document for stuff that I think is relevant and needs to be actively promoted as well as subtly shared through my lifestream. Consider it the cream of the crop.
The 2010 Winter Olympics were held in Vancouver this year, and it was marred by many things, the most prominent of which was the death of Nodar Komaritashvili, a Luger who was killed on a training run. This is bad enough, but it has been added to by people capitalising off the athlete’s death, as explained by this video from TheRealWeeklyNews. For reference, the user he is calling out specifically is IShatOnU, and the initial video is here. He has since taken down his other milkings of the event, and the video bragging of the equipment he bought with the ‘Olympic Youtube Blood Money’.
Another injustice flying about the internet is the DRM that Ubisoft and Electronic Arts are placing on their content. Assassin’s Creed 2 will force you to be always connected to the internet, and it turns out that Command & Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight, will force you to do the same, as I mentioned in my first Five Minute Rant on the subject. Since then, SavyGamer have taken up a scheme which, for the cost of 90p shipping and a little bit of time, you can stand up against restrictive DRM. I say bring back Disc Keys.
Lastly, just something that I’ve been doing to use my netbook more. Lifehacker has a great article up on getting the most out of your netbook, and personally I’ve found it useful as a news reader via Google Reader, one of the few aggregation sites that render properly on a portrait netbook screen.
KAECY.US is the freshly resurrected blog of Allan 'Kaecyus' Bowden-Smith; an Aion nut with too much time on his hands.
