Time-Off Checklist Super Comparison Get!

So I missed yesterday’s entry, but I did write something in the blog. It was my Dropbox Linklist for yesterday, which I put a bit more effort into than I normally would.

Today was just a day of rest for me, to be honest. I took Mum out for breakfast because I won’t have the opportunity tomorrow; went to the Red Lion and caught up a little bit. With Mum working all the time, and me having worked most nights (before this week off, obviously) meant that we didn’t get much time to talk. It was nice just talking with her before we did our usual shopping run. I think we’ll make a regular thing of it. Even if it’s just a Coffee for her and a Coke for me. I would like to vent about something else that happened today, but I won’t. It’s not a case of wanting to keep my mouth shut, it’s more just a case of not wanting to stir things up. It’s someone that’s around quite a bit, and it was really out of character, so I’m going to put it down to a bad day, and get on with life. No point in making a mountain of a molehill.

Tomorrow is my last day off, so I want to look at what I’ve done this last week. And I’m going to refer to the entry that I made at the beginning of the ‘Holiday’.

  • Google Calendar with work, course, and other engagements written in, syncing to Outlook and my Smartphone – I have completely circumvented Outlook with this. I have Google Calendar set up, and my phone to sync up with it once every few hours. All over the air, all automated. All I have to do is make the change on Google Calendar and it will pick up on it.
  • Computer clear of mess with a strict filing system, sans ‘Miscellaneous’ folder. – This has been done automatically for me. I installed Windows 7 as a first port of call, and it’s created the system for me, and made it much more accessible to boot. The shortcuts from my desktop are gone, and the key applications are now permanently on my taskbar. There is now Miscellaneous folder, but a ‘Downloads’ folder which gets sorted every night through software into Images, Videos, Programs and Music, and stored in the relevant areas on an external hard drive.
  • Tracks installed on server so I have defined deadlines should the calendar go out the window – FAIL. FAIL FAIL FAIL FAIL FAIL. Tracks was too difficult for me to implement on a server that I have limited rights to, so I just went with Remember The Milk instead. It’s interlocked with Google Calendar, so it’s also more prominent and requires one less site to visit when I get on my computer for the first time in the day.
  • A focused environment for work and play – This is all done; room is tidy, and desk is clean. I have a bowl to throw everything from my pockets into, and I now set aside 25 minutes through the day to just tidy up. My desk is now somewhere that I don’t mind sitting at and getting work done, rather than having to.

A boring entry, but one that I feel had to be read. See you all tomorrow. =]
