Witty Title Goes Here

Windows 7 really is a step up. I hate to point out the obvious, but it just proves how much of a failure Vista was. I’m getting notable improvements in performance on the same hardware; this should not be happening. It should be worse; the OS should demand more from the system in order to do more, and yet it demands less to get the job done. I’m so impressed by the new taskbar, and the dock-esque behaviors they have on it. It’s removed my need for shortcut icons, which means less of a mess on my desktop, and less scanning for the correct icon. Surprised it took me so long to get onto it from Vista. The difference in gaming is noticeable; I can go up to full resolution without a problem now. :]

Took some time out of my day to clean the house a little. Just the living room, but it made a difference. The dog covered it in his hairs as he does, but still. The parents certainly appreciated it, so I think I’ll do some more cleaning tomorrow. Hey, if it keeps the parents at bay, I can’t complain for half an hour’s work.

I’m looking at Aion, and yet again there is a Double XP event. I’m tempted to go back, but I’m not sold on even putting a month down, and there is my problem. I want to be able to commit to the game for a month to make sure that I give it a fair go; much like I did to begin with. Grnated, that run lasted six months, but you know what I mean. I want to love the game again, and really get my teeth into it. It’s either that, or get into FFXIV with Ashley. I’m interested in how Square Enix handles the MMO genre after it has evolved so much since FFXI.  And if it has a better group mechanic than Aion, I’m all for it. I hope they do the level-sync deal again; that way there’s no excuse for me not getting help from guildies. Of course, it goes both ways. I would be expected to do a lot with my free time for any guild, which is fair point.

Anyway, I’m blabbing now. I’ll cut it off here. Night.

Once More Unto the Breach

I know I said that I wouldn’t make another post until the move was complete. But so long as I don’t make any use of images, I’m OK with just a quick export. Plus, if I do need to put an image in, I’ve cleaned things up for a better transfer, instead of the six-hour one that happened last time.

I’ve finally gotten somewhere with Hostnine; and it’s just proven that they have no control over their own product. From what I can see, Site5 does both webhosting and domain registering, which means that I only have one place to go to. Granted, I can’t use their services because they don’t register the domain that I am interested in, but still; at least they make an effort. Hostnine’s hosting may be their own, but they use an entirely different company to register domains. Which means that I get stonewalled by Register.com, who have no idea what ‘transfer approval’ is. How on earth can these companies operate successfully without this sort of knowledge?!

Ah well. It means I still have four days before the domain becomes part of name.com, and even then it will take a little while to get it to point to my new host, simply because of the DNS propagation.

Got in touch with Gemm and Seregon last night on their own vent. Nice to hear their voices again, and Aethis has joined them as well. They’re playing Star Trek Online, another MMO, but one that I have no interest in playing. If I’m going to be playing a sci-fi MMO, it’s going to be the Mass Effect MMO (which is undoubtedly coming out; it’s the ultimate cash-in and Bioware will have had previous experience with The Old Republic on the horizon). At the moment I’m more interested in Final Fantasy XIV; I’ve signed up for the beta, and I hope I will be selected. If we all get in it’s me, Ashley, Zero, Hinata, and I think Zach will be in there too. Aion just doesn’t hold that promise for me, and now there is a better game in my 360 constantly begging to be played, I feel like I’m over-scratching an itch that doesn’t exist anymore by logging on. Still, double XP is this weekend, and I will try to take advantage of it while somehow keeping Ashley happy on Valentine’s Day. ;]

There’s a light at the end of the tunnel with work, and I can see it. I’ll have Friday and Saturday off, and in a few weeks I’ll have (effectively) 12 days without work. I’ll probably drill Aion into the ground at that point, since I’ll be around for the instance groups that turn up. I hope to get to 50 by the end of March, by which point I’ll have the awesome 40 wings that come with playing Aion for six months.

Made a quick Youtube video, which of course Youtube has ballsed up and desync’d the voice with the video, but I’ll go to Vimeo when the time is right. It’s in the sidebar in my Lifestream if anyone is interested in watching it. Been looking at setting up tracks, but I have the feeling I’ll have to ask Zach for some help with that. It seems to be a bit temperamental on Site5′s hosting (because it’s all custom; which is a good thing before anyone says anything : P), and I don’t know the first thing about operating the SSH terminal. Do I want to learn? Maybe the basics, in case I have to do it again.
