On June 30th 2009, The Pirate Bay was sold to Global Gaming Factory, after the sham trial that landed the Pirate Bay Four with a £2.1m cumulative debt, and a year’s prison sentence. Neither of these have been fulfilled as of yet, but the call for a retrial has been quashed, despite the fact that the Judge was biased. They now plan o ngoing to the European Court of Human Rights to try to overturn it. But in the process, they have managed to sell the asset for double their fine price (once in pure cash, and once again in shares in what The Pirate bay will become), and spawned a new idea called Video Bay, a la DMCA-Free Youtube.

I cannot use The Pirate Bay any longer, now that I know they could well be co-operating with the Big Four in trying to get money out of people downloading files out of Fair Use interests (ie alternative formats)

Radio4 wasn’t joking when they said that we could go back to admiring the Americans, and being annoyed by the French. Despite the fact that the European Parliament had said no, the French Government has passed in a law that allows any computer user that is seen to be filesharing to be disconnected after their third warning, with no court procedure, and with no rebuttal until the disconnection period is over.

The fact that he has gone against the same political body that he was singing the praises of but a couple of years ago just shows that he’s trying to throw his power about, not to mention his threatening to quit the G20 talks if the other nations didn’t bow to his wishes.

When this politician decided to rear his bald, uninformed head once again, I couldn’t contain myself. His views are so out of touch, he alone demonstrates the many, many reasons that game development can’t truly push the envelope in the UK.

I will say again, that this man needs to either book up his ideas, or leave Parliament altogether. He doesn’t represent me, nor does he represent the youth of his constituency.
